The thinest 5G phone you can own right now costs just S$399 | Realme 8 5G

With the rising adoption of 5G mobile networks, realme has introduced the realme 8 5G, which supports dual 5G SIM cards. Realme has also introduced several features to counteract the increased power consumption when connected to 5G networks.

Dual 5G SIM support with an intelligent processor

The realme 8 delivers robust performance through the octa-core Dimensity 700 5G Processor with two Arm Cortex-A76 cores operating at speedy 2.2GHz speeds. The processor comes in a 7nm process, with up to 28% more power-efficient than the 8nm process found on other processors.

With realme’s newly developed RAM Expansion Technology (DRE) which can convert ROM into virtual RAM, games which require more RAM can leverage this feature to deliver an ultra-smooth experience.

One big highlight of this processor is the support for dual 5G SIM cards, which operates on the Standalone (SA) and Non-Standalone (NSA) 5G connections. This ensures a smooth experience scrolling through your phone, supported by the Arm Mali-G57 MC2 for a better screen refresh rate.

Apart from the improved processor found on the device, a 5000mAh battery combats the increased battery consumption associated with 5G. With features like App Quick Freeze to automatically freeze idle applications and switching between 4G and 5G seamlessly, the phone conserves battery without interfering with everyday usage.

Aesthetic on the front and back

Coming at just 8.5mm and weighing 185g, the realme 8 5G is the thinnest 5G smartphone at the time of this writing. On the front, the realme 8 5G comes with a 90Hz, 180Hz touch sampling rate, 6.5-inch Ultra Smooth Display with a peak brightness of 600nits for a lag-free experience in any lighting condition.

On the rear, the phone comes with a colourway of Supersonic Blue which is inspired by speeding headlights. Through the high-gloss indium plating process, the surface creates a dynamic change of light when the phone is shaken.

Nightscape Camera

The realme 8 5G features the 48MP rear triple camera – the 48MP high-definition primary camera, the B&W portrait lens, and the 4cm macro lens. Combining the powerful camera hardware with a multi-frame synthesis algorithm, users can capture expert-looking images with the help of  five nightscape filters to enhance nightscape photos.

Meanwhile, on its front, the front 16MP camera supports AI beauty and portrait mode, responsible for taking impressive selfies and delivering sharp footage when doing live streams.

Availability and Pricing

The realme 8 5G will be available for purchase in Singapore from 29 May 2021. The Supersonic Blue will be sold at S$399 for the 8GB RAM + 128GB storage variant across online flagship stores on Shopee and Lazada, and physical stores including realme’s concept store and authorised retailers.
