Amidst the uptake in generative AI lately, the Google Gemini 2.0 is now available for public release. This update brings about integration into multiple platforms, such as through Google AI Studio, Vertex AI, and the Gemini app.
This update comes in several models – notably Gemini 2.0 Flash, Gemini 2.0 Pro Experimental and Gemini 2.0 Flash-Lite.
Gemini 2.0 Flash
Designed mainly for high-frequency AI tasks, this model boasts a low-latency model with a 1-million-token context window – to handle huge datasets across different formats (texts, image, and potentially other data types in the near future).
Currently available on all platforms, future updates could include image generation and text-to-speech capabilities.
Gemini 2.0 Pro Experimental
Centred around providing advanced AI reasoning and coding capabilities, this model provides 2-million-token context window – the largest in the Gemini series. The enlarged capabilities effectively facilitates superior coding performance such as complex programming tasks and debugging, alongside integration with external tools such as Google Search and code execution functions.
This model is available in experimental mode in Google AI Studio and Vertex AI. It would also be accessible to Gemini Advanced users in the Gemini app.
Gemini 2.0 Flash-Lite
As implied by the Lite suffix, this model is a budget-friendly alternative designed for speed and affordability. This iteration outperforms the standard model from the previous generation (Gemini 1.5 Flash) on most benchmarks.
This model is available as a public preview release in Google AI Studio and Vertex AI.
Enhanced Safety and Security
To improve data outputs universally, all models self-critique its outputs for increased reliability in response. To counteract potential vulnerabilities, AI modules would undergo security stress tests to detect and mitigate potential vulnerabilities, to simulate malicious instructions potentially found in external data sources.
Future Development in models
As Google continues to be in the frontline of AI development, future development is likely to include additional modalities beyond text and images, more powerful AI tools tailored for developers.
