Canon EOS R1 and EOS R5 Mark II – for action-packed photography and videography

Canon have recently released the EOS R1 and the EOS R5 Mark II – two mirrorless devices which are no slouch in terms of their professional capabilities. One sought after feature is the Canon Log 2 which is highly favoured for its wider dynamic range (16+ stops) and better preservation of shadow details

Geared at film enthusiasts with a great desire to capture action footages, the EOS R1 prides itself for its superior image stabilisation capability (up to 8.5 stops equivalent image stabilisation). The camera comes with inbuilt algorithms to further enhance the results captured by the camera (ability to elevate the megapixel count to 96-megapixel from 24-megapixel).

Notable specs include:

  • 24-megapixel back-illuminated (BSI) stacked CMOS sensor: produces 96-megapixels with In-Camera Upscaling technology
  • Swift AutoFocus and subject tracking performance through DIGIC and DIGIC X (suitable for ball sports)
  • Prioritise 10 preregistered subjects in footage
  • 5-axis In-Body Image Stabilisation (up to 8.5 stops equivalent image stabilisation)
  • shoot high-speed bursts at up to 40 fps (reduction of footage wobble)
  • pre-continuous shooting for stills and pre-recording for videos
  • anti-fog Electronic ViewFinder
  • dual shooting function: simultaneously record FHD 60p video and 16:9 JPEG
  • The Neural Network Noise Reduction function steps in to address concerns of image noise, by eliminating high-fidelity noise on RAW images to produce high ISO JPEG images with minimal post-editing.

The Canon EOS R1 features a light, yet strong magnesium alloy exterior which resists varying climate conditions. The first EOS system camera to support the new WiFi 6/6E wireless standards atop of the existing standards, users will be able to rapidly transfer their footage onto their devices – ideal for the professionals in the press.

Being a press-centred device with superior action capture, the EOS R1 intelligently select the best images amongst a series of photographers. Picture tuning can be done automatically through the Custom Picture colour presets.

  • DIGIC Accelerator and the DIGIC X image processor for improved AF performance
  • Motion tracking and tracing through Register People Priority function
  • Create 4K videos with oversampled 8K sensor output and 2K/FHD videos from oversampled 4K
  • slow-motion scenes in 4K (up to 5x slower) or in Full HD (up to 10x slower) with the 4K 120p or FHD 240p
