As implied by the title, the Samsung Galaxy S24 series lays the grounds for the manufacturer’s stance on a holistic AI-supported smartphone experience, extending across multiple areas.
Whilst making huge advancements in AI technology, Galaxy S24 users are granted full autonomy over how much information can be used to enhance AI experience – through Advanced Intelligence to disable online processing.
To maximise the improvement from the chipsets, ray-tracing is now available to enable life-like visuals like superior shadows and reflection effects. Partnerships with industry-leading gaming partners produces optimised popular global mobile games.
The Galaxy S24 Ultra, in particular, is equipped with the Snapdragon® 8 Gen 3 Mobile Platform for Galaxy which is supported with an optimal thermal cooling system with a 1.9 times larger vapour chamber.
For the first time in the Galaxy phone lineup, the Galaxy S24 Ultra receives a titanium frame for improved device durability and longevity whilst compacting the device and enhancing grip comfort.
Defying the language barriers – regardless of formats
Starting with Live Translate, users can now establish two-way, real-time voice and text translations of phone calls – with the on-device AI. These features could be used to seamlessly book a reservation overseas – using the native app (with an internet connection).
Face-to-face conversations can be instantly translated with the Interpreter feature in a split-screen format – to facilitate conversations for people standing opposite each other. To accommodate the limited data plan overseas, this feature works offline.
Aimed at optimising conversation etiquette, Chat Assist can be angled in different audiences for optimal effect (i.e. social media, coworkers, etc.). AI built into Samsung Keyboard brings real-time message translation in 13 languages.
On the road, Android Auto summarises incoming messages and compliments them with suggested relevant replies for maximum efficiency and attention when driving.
Various ways to search
Closely partnering with Google, searching for information on the Galaxy S24 takes on a personalised touch. The first phone to debut intuitive, gesture-driven Circle to Search with Google, a long press on the home button will allow users to circle over any part of the display to get helpful, high-quality search results at that instant.
Helping to keep your attention on the content consumed, the feature extracts contextualised information curated at the user’s region and usage habits for maximum familiarity.
Enhanced note-taking – text and verbal
Note Assist in Samsung Notes broadly works by producing AI-generated summaries for prompt reading, creating templates for notes to ease clustering, and cover creation (with brief preview) to improve visibility.
When voice recordings (even with multiple speakers) are involved, a feature known as Transcript Assist uses AI and Speech-to-Text technology to transcribe, summarise and even translate recordings.
Routine improvements in camera hardware
The Galaxy S24 Ultra has come to include a Quad Tele System, with new 5x optical zoom lens which works with the 50MP sensor to mimic optical-quality performance thanks to the Adaptive Pixel Sensor – producing clear results at 10x with enhanced digital zoom.
From a hardware perspective, the Galaxy S24 Ultra’s larger pixel size, now 1.4 μm (60% larger than its predecessor), captures more light in dim conditions. Blur is reduced with wider optical image stabilizer (OIS) angles and enhanced hand-shake compensation.
In efforts to reduce video noise, the entire Galaxy S24 series is equipped with Dedicated ISP Block for noise reduction and gyro information analysis to tell apart the filmer’s movement and the subject’s – which even works for dark videos.
Holistic AI-supported photography
Constantly improving on its software optimisation, the Galaxy S24 series emcompasses a ProVisual Engine to maximise expression capabilities – from setting up a shot all the way to sharing it on social media.
Galaxy AI editing tools enable simple edits like erase, re-compose, and remaster. For automated results, users can choose the Edit Suggestion feature. To compensate for any missing segments of the photograph such as borders, Generative Edit can fill in parts of an image background with generative AI.
To improve visibility of an action-packed video, the new Instant Slow-mo intelligently generates additional frames based on movements to add onto the details of the video.
Even before the shutter is triggered, Super HDR reveals realistic previews – which can be utilised by third-party social apps for superior photograph quality.
Practical display improvements
For improved efficiency and visibility respectively, all three models (standard, Plus, Ultra) come with 1-120Hz adaptive refresh rates and a peak brightness of 2,600nit. The Ultra variant comes with Corning® Gorilla® Armor to reduce reflection by up to 75% in varying lighting conditions.
Thanks to a revised bezel thickness, the Galaxy S24+ and Galaxy S24 comes with larger displays within nearly the same size specifications – measuring 6.7 inches and 6.2 inches respectively. The Galaxy S24 Ultra variant now contains a 6.8-inch flatter display, optimised for both viewing and productivity.
